What is the PRocess?
A full basement renovation can take between 16 and 35 weeks. The exact timing varies based on the same factors that affect price (scope and complexity). Aesthetic upgrades and/or those that don’t require permits and approvals will take less time.

3-6 Weeks
- Initial Consultation: 1-2 weeks for initial meetings and discussions to review your space and ideas.
- Concept Development: 1-2 weeks to create and discuss a rough plan and design concepts.
- Design Development: 1-2 weeks to create detailed plans and select materials and finishes.
Permits and Approvals
3-8 Weeks
- Permit Application: 1-2 weeks to prepare and submit permit applications, including title search, site plan, and floor plan drawings when necessary.
- Approval Process: 2-6 weeks for local authorities to review and approve permits.
Pre-Construction Preparation
1-4 Weeks
- Site Preparation: up to 1 week to prepare the site and get ready for demolition (if required).
- Scheduling: 1 week to schedule the work and order materials. We can prepare a detailed Gantt chart for your project, so you can see exactly how things are planned and where tasks have dependencies, etc.
Construction
8-16 Weeks
- Demolition (if required): up to one week to remove any existing structures.
- Framing, Electrical, Plumbing & HVAC: 2-4 weeks to complete the major structural work.
- Insulation, Drywall & Paint: 3-6 weeks to install insulation and drywall and for painting.
- Finishing Touches: 2-4 weeks for lighting, cabinetry, floors, tiles and decorative surfaces.
- City Inspections: 1-2 weeks to complete and pass various inspections along the way.
Handover and Follow-up
1 Week
- Walk-through: up to 1 week to conduct a final walkthrough and address any issues.
